About this place

The Center stands downtown at Pemberton Place, a block from the Aquarium, and it works in two halves: the American civil rights movement, told through the papers and artifacts of Dr Martin Luther King Jr. and the movement's own objects, and today's global human rights struggles.

Its best-known exhibit is the lunch counter sit-in simulation, which puts you on a stool in 1960 with the abuse of the moment in your ears; it is intense by design. Families are looked after too: the Change Agent Adventure gallery is built for children aged 12 and under. Last entry is an hour before closing.
