About this place

Jimmy Carter is Georgia's president, and his presidential library stands in 35 acres of gardens and ponds in Freedom Park, east of downtown, beside the Carter Center. It opened in 1986 and is run by the National Archives.

The museum walks Carter's life from Plains to the White House to the decades of post-presidential work: a full-scale replica of his Oval Office, his Nobel Peace Prize, and the story of the Carter Center's election monitoring and disease eradication. It is a text-rich museum that rewards a slow visit, and the grounds are half the pleasure.
